What is Mentoring?

I think many people use the word mentoring, but really don’t have any idea what it actually is.  Proof in point is the following video…

But seriously, here is the real scoop on mentoring:

Mentors are superheroes!

While we do our best to match up our Kinship mentors with a child who could benefit from having an extra caring and committed adult in their life, the mentors are the ones creating and arranging their one-to-one time with their mentee.

Ideally, our mentors can connect with their kid for one hour each week, or at least four hours in a month. Mentors can bring their kids along to our monthly Kinship group activities. Many of our mentors also spend time together with their mentee by sharing meals, attending community events, baking, playing games, movies, and doing many out-door activities together when the weather is nice!

It’s really just about spending time together and letting the child know that they have an extra person in their life that CARES.

So many of our mentors and mentees have become such great friends through the time they spend together that they even continue their formal mentoring relationship beyond the one-year commitment!

We are thrilled to see the many lives impacted by our superhero Kinship mentors!
